(Q. What is the Knowledge of Excellence?) After this third, marvellous edition,
that had science as it's peak,
and all the wonderful accounts of the neuroscientists that have participated,
of those who go into space to do research,
one extremely interesting thing comes into light:
the greatest knowledge, the greatest excellence is us with our mystery;
because should we rely on the time needed to know ourselves
we would have to wait for a new Creation,
but in the meantime we are here, we are living
and it is wonderful at certain times to feel reassured
by this, or that, small, great, sometimes revolutionary discovery.
We have learnt about this green protein that will allow us
in the future to cure many illnesses, and that already today allows new research frontiers
and so it is able to grant us new knowledge.
But we have also learnt that our ability to motivate ourselves
to amazement, to the desire of knowledge,
to the living curiosity that transforms you, keeps you present to the daily life
and so it gives you a perception of reality that continuously changes
because you change.
Well truly this is the most surprising thing
that strongly comes out from these cycles of 21 minutes - Knowledge of Excellence.
(Q. 21 minutes - Knowledge of Excellence will be focused on Economy, how will you broadcast it?)
This is a very important moment for our world,
that has become smaller and smaller, now we are even in real time,
thousands of people have followed us, from different parts of the Earth,
thanks to streaming.
This, as we could say, is almost a "magic" word for us today, although it is
the product of a simple technology, of a relation.
Well, we also are the product of a relation.
We are truly the product of a process that started millions of years ago,
and that continues day after day in our life,
thanks to our actions, thanks to our ability to feel emotions, to feel involved,
but also thanks to our ability to rethink and especially to rethink ourselves,
realizing that it is possible to change in this changing world, becoming
adapted to it.
What am I talking about exactly? Of our acronym F.A.S.E.
The process is: PHILOSOPHY (Filosofia)
that is the "love for", the love for the vision,
the love for knowledge
the love for man,
that later becomes sign, art, technology,
but also,
that special ability that is to make the old things new,
changing their order,
reorganizing them
and therefore truly innovating.
And while this extraordinary process, that is ART (Arte), is carried out,
it shows us that our knowledge is limited,
and that it is therefore necessary to investigate even more, it is necessary to investigate deeply,
and this becomes SCIENCE (Scienza).
And science partly reassures us and partly invites us to go further,
and to go further we must understand the law of ECONOMY (Economia),
which is the law of mutual maintenance.
I believe that our future has in store for us
the invitation to produce a new comprehension,
the comprehension of interrelation.
We are not separate from the environment that hosts us.
We are, yes, single individuals,
but we belong to a species;
we are, yes, a species
but we live thanks to an environment
that each day gives us the opportunity to stay here,
receiving us, feeding us, and in some ways also changing us.
So the 2012 edition will talk about this special type of economy
and not only about the numbers of the GDP of this or that other nation. 0:05:02.000,0:05:04.000 It will talk of our internal numbers
and how it is important for us to make these numbers function,
the numbers of our heart, the numbers of our brain,
the numbers of our actions, of our days, in a different way.
And I'm sure that thanks to next year's 21 guests
2012 too will be a rich year, a thrilling and interesting year
and especially a year that will amaze us, surprise us
and generate wonder within ourselves.
(Q. What is sustainability and why is it a value so difficult to achieve?) Sustainable actions.
My life is indeed guided by a simple idea:
there is only one sustainable action
which is that of trying to understand what is really the ultimate purpose of our existence,
and therefore what is the true role that nature has assigned us and that each day we must assign to ourselves.
And the five words, that I say are the 5 words of the third millennium,
but that are in fact the words of the millennium that has just passed,
and the words, I believe, of the millennium that will come,
see our ability of constantly reinterpreting, without interference, our role
together with our ability of being each day more responsible
of, indeed, accepting the burden of finding new answers
because the world around us changes,
because the numbers change, because its resources change
because we, in relation with it, reinvent it, rethink it,
and our ability to use our reason and our attention,
to give a new answer, enables us to understand that
things are not all the same, and therefore we must establish priorities.
And if yesterday we dreamt that we could delegate to technology many of our choices,
today it is clear that technology answers that
it can do many things,
or, more precisely, help us do many things,
but that the task of controlling it, is completely ours, deeply ours
so that its results would be those that our life as humans desires
and not the contrary.
So we have to re-appropriate ourselves of the correct use, moment after moment
of all the instruments that we continue, wonderfully, to imagine and then to produce
because this is truly in our potential, in our capacities,
and this is a moment of great richness to which it is unthinkable to renounce.
So tomorrow we will be even more capable then today,
we will be even more capable, not only of inventing new things,
but also of inventing for them new and better uses.
(Q. How would you define the key concept of 21 minutes -Knowledge of Excellence?) To watch ourselves change in a world that changes.
Thank you
