Inside this sanatorium.
Down the endless corridors.
Within the whispers.
Lies the secrets.
And the sins.
To the unknown.
We are here today with our team in Beelitz Heilstatten.
A sanatorium with about sixty buildings...
...build on about two hundred hectares.
Late in the nineteenth century, the major cities became in the grip of tuberculosis.
The consequence of filthy overcrowded cities.
The main treatment in that time was fresh air...
...healthy forest air.
In response to this devastating disease they build this sanatorium...
Beelitz Heilstatten.
In several phases, this huge building became built.
Almost a city in itself, with on the south side a building for women...
...and on the north side a building for the men.
With beds for 1,200 patients, a nursery...
...a post office, a bakery, a butcher, a laundry, it was a huge event.
And leading at that time, also because of the architecture.
