“Summer. Starts. Now.”
Justin Timberlake fans, prepare yourselves for the best 4th of July ever.
JT just gifted us with a surprise entry for song of the summer called "SoulMate."
”Wanna be, wanna be your...
soulmate…
for the night..."
The samba-like track, which dropped out of nowhere on Tuesday,
was produced by frequent Drake collaborator Nineteen85.
Like the higher points of Justin's 'Man of the Woods' album, the mid-tempo song
feels like a return to JT's more buttery, body-moving sound.
On Monday, Timberlake posted an Instagram pic from the studio in which
85 and James Fauntleroy are seen behind the boards
in the background with the caption "Last week's Bahamas Sessions."
Justin is in Paris now for Tuesday night's kickoff of the European leg of his
Man of the Woods tour, and it's unclear what he's planning with the producers.
But in a conversation with Complex, Timberlake had high praise for the recent
G.O.O.D. Music albums released by Kanye West as well as Drake's 'Scorpion.'
To date, Drizzy and JT have collaborated on just one song, "Cabaret,"
from 'The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2,' but it seems like more could be in the works.
Justin also left the door open to making more music with Pharrell Williams,
who he re-united with after a long break on 'Man of the Woods.'
“I’m a man of the woods, it’s my pride."
So what do you think of Justin's new track?
Is "Soulmate" already your song of the summer?
Let me down in the comments. And for Billboard News, I'm Kevan Kenney.
