How WIU prepared me for a future career in Agricultural Education
How did Western prepare you for your future career?
Western Illinois University
[Laura Bellville] The Ag Education Program at Western Illinois
has benefited me not only in the classroom
but also preparing myself for obtaining
a career in Ag Education.
[Ashley Mason] There are professional development opportunities for
all Ag Ed students in the form of these brown bag meetings that
we have throughout the semester
that is arranged by Doctor Baker.
[Jeff Rieck] He had us out student teaching
observing classrooms doing simple education stuff
but yet trying to make sure this is what you want
to do cause he understands that this is a big commitment
[Laura Bellville] One of the experiences that I can remember most
going to the University of Nebraska to
the AAE conference and we were able
to go onto the Cornhuskers football field.
We got to meet Larry the Cable Guy and we also just learned different
aspects that can also help us benefit us in the classroom
as well as in the actual teaching of Ag Education.
[Bryan Shullian] I was always getting the opportunity
to work on lesson plans to teach anytime I wanted
to and just get critiqued by, by professionals
who really understand what they are doing.
[Jeff Rieck] You know you get experience in what your
gonna do on you're job what to look for
how to get jobs, you know, stuff like that.
[Mallory Swanson] If I had to choose to do it all over
I would definitely choose Western again
as my school to pursue my Agricultural Education Degree.
[Ashley Mason] And Ag Ed is a good fit for someone
if you're interested in pursuing a career in education
or if you may end up working in the Ag industry
and I found that the classes that I've had
revolving around agriculture and education have made me well
prepared for both of those options.
[Bryan Shullian] That was a learning experience and a life
long journey that I can never forget.
