Malaria - it's a global scourge.
But a new report from the World Health Organization, WHO, shows that
steady progress is being made in fighting the disease.
The 2011 World Malaria Report found that since 2000,
malaria cases have dropped globally by 25 per cent,
and in many countries, that number has fallen
further still, to as much as 50 per cent.
Experts say that increased financing has led to these improvements,
but current resources are still not enough.
The UN health agency, WHO, says 5 to 6 billion dollars a year
is needed to meet global malaria targets.
So far this year, only $2-billion has been received.

of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership
"The problem is clear. Unless we maintain our commitment
we will lose the progress we have made against malaria.
And if we don't increase our investment, we are at great
risk of not achieving goals we have set."
