The people reacted badly, they reacted badly. I always remember it.
Every Marillion’s fan was at "Obras Stadium" in 1992.
I want to know, How did you feel? What happened with you?
Marillion was coming for the first time to Argentina. Fish had left the band; and when he came, he came as soloist,
but, it was the first time as a band, what did you feel? what happened to you?
Look, I was with a group of friends and we all were this previous month, if I remember well, it was in September,...
Yes, it was in September.
…All this previous month listening to "Holidays In Eden"...
They were going to appear on TV in September, Do you remember? In a show called "Hacelo por Mí"
Twice. I mean, they appeared on TV before and they appeared again when they came for the concert.
Yes, I remember to have seen it. I was feeling the adrenaline of wanting to see my favorite band for the first time live.
One of the things that I remember was the support band "Aguirre". It was tremendous.
Things were flying, I don't know what they were (laughs).
Things were flying. Peaceful people like Marillion's fan reacted badly, because "Aguirre" did rude gestures.
But later Marillion came to the stage and they were impeccable.
A great show in every sense to be honest. From Fish's old songs to the long songs, even the pop songs.
It was a complete show. Everyone was satisfied.
We used to said "I couldn’t see marillion with Fish" but it was a true sensational show
and I believe that all those who weren’t sure about Hogarth, and those who went to see him, remained 100% satisfied.
What can you say about the last show? We are already finishing
A very good selection of songs. I believe that they did a “greatest hits” selection with some songs added.
The last show was...
We’re not going to talk about the show of 1997 for obvious reasons…
Yes, in fact I had to write in "Epopeya" magazine about it and it wasn’t positive. But the last show was really exciting!
I was looking like a 20-year-old teenager in the front, shouting, singing the songs,
and returning to the memories of each one of these songs.
You know particularly that theatre (Vorterix) isn’t my favorite.
Marillion deserves a better location in my opinion but I believe that they put everything and it was exciting.
Thankfully they played songs that I asked for by inbox.
It is necessary to understand that it was 15 years between one part and the other one
and it is clear that there were many songs for them to play that we had not listened live before.
In fact, I believe that when they began the tour along South America, Brazil, they began with a very different setlist to the one they ended with.
And they played less time, Did you notice it?
Indeed, less time. They played a bit more, one or two more songs in Chile. The truth is I was very satisfied.
In fact, that was the reason for me to say "I have to go to the Weekend"...
Of course... She convinced you.
Totally
Talking about emotion: from the intellectual side, we can do the link with the music that they do because it is refined,
very exquisite, very complete.
We can also do the link from the affective side; you also said it, Hogarth is a great showman and he transmits that emotion,
besides the lyrics and the music, he communicates it and that’s fantastic.
Yes. There is always a discussion between virtuosity and the emotional, the thing that surprises you from the talent,
from the virtuousity or from the feeling that comes to you.
I believe that there is a mixture of both things
but it seems clearly that if they has been a band after 28 years more or less, 29 years,
it is not just for technical things.
It’s a matter of what they make you feel and whenever you listen to a song, all the memories that bring to you.
Is like a perfume. They bring you to a certain moment, to a part of your life and Marillion is tied by the nostalgia of each one of us.
At least, This is how I feel and how they continue to making me feel every time I listen to them.
I was talking to you time ago that I used to go with my Ipod listening to Marillion
and I can’t avoid my eyes full of tears.
And another fantastic thing that also has a relation to is the fact of being able to put these notes
without having the slave of time who is hurrying me, you know?
The fact of being able to say: "if I have to do this in 20 minutes, in 5, in 8 or in 10, I will do it in 5, in 8 or in 20 minutes".
This is also a fantastic thing. You can listen to a Marillion song that closed everything in 3 minutes.
Or, sometimes the idea or concept needs 20 minutes for a musical development or for a lyric development.
Do believe this is another thing that sometimes contemporary artists miss, you know?
But that means to enter in a whole discussion about the record labels world
and I believe that Marillion has always done that way and they will continue doing as his own boss.
That’s another story.
We can talk about that another day
You have just listened to a fragment of the song "Out of this world".
