It's very important when you go on a racetrack to wear all the safety equipment
For sure: we saw in the past so many drivers not wearing anything!
Now, we are so quick, that it is very important to ensure our safety
Underwear is very important: you have this protection straight on your skin (including pants and socks)
and put the suit over
You can never predict a crash and a fire, so it's very important to wear all that
This includes also the balaclava that you put on your head under the helmet
You have also to wear gloves
A lot of people who just drive on the road don't really like to wear gloves
because they think they lose some feeling
but if you want to be quick and safe on a racetrack, you have to use them and you don't lose any feeling
Moreover, when you are doing endurance races, not wearing gloves will give you a lot of blisters
For me, the helmet is the bigest safety issue whenever you drive a quick car on a racetrack or a racecar
These 100% carbon helmets are very sure
The HANS® device is also mandatory in a lot of series
I think that even if you just go on a racetrack for fun, you should use it
When you first look at the system, you think your head won't move freely
but after using it for one hour, you don't feel it anymore
When you see big crashes in front of you during a race or on TV, you understand why it is good to wear a HANS® device
I think that with the HANS®, with a good helmet and all the safety equipment here, you should have no problem
And you should have fun too
Heat stress is a real threat
It has led to numerous driving errors, collapses or worse There is no need to drive in hot conditions and feel these terrible effects
The important thing is that the sweat does not saturate the inside of the clothing
It is indeed this equipment which immediately conditions driving comfort and thus performance and safety
If your racing suit does not "breathe", body heat is contained and a progressive increase in core body temperature ensues
The temperature in a GT car can easily reach 60 to 70°C (140 to 158°F)
Heat, coupled with adrenaline due to racing, dramatically increases driving errors leading to a crash
At the same time, the heart rate increases, which can lead to a blackout
All the process goes faster when you get older
Heat stress is part of our professional driver life; we are trained and really fit, and still suffer a lot from heat
