and all of us know who live in alabama that a little over two years
ago we had sixty two tornadoes
five F five's all in one day
and had more than two hundred and fifty deaths across our state
and we are at one with the people and oklahoma
I had opportunity with my long-term longtime friend Anthony Jordan
executive director of oklahoma baptist convention (we were in seminary together)
known him for decades
we while the tornadoes were coming we were texting back and
forth
and of course they are in the midst of
what you would call the very first stage of
trying to rescue and recover and just
overcome the shock of what is happening
but we have already prepared and sent a check from alabama baptist disaster
relief
to those
in Oklahoma
and will be continuing to do that and i know that you will be in prayer for the
efforts of doing that. Let me just remind you that, Mel if you'll stand.
Mel Johnson is our disaster relief coordinator and we stand by
ready to go and help when the time comes when it's appropriate
and one hundred percent of gifts given through disaster relief
all of that goes directly to
the efforts in helping the people there are some very good para-church
organizations and the like. as alabama baptist you can feel real good
about your disaster relief efforts and what we try to do not only with hands
and feet and the ministry of presence but also and the funding and the
financial funds that we tried to
make ourselves available
we we know we've we've been through this this. We know the
difficulties all this presents
in the coming weeks
there'll be people dealing with post-traumatic
stress syndrome There'll be people
burying their young very young
they'll be people trying to put together their lives from the debris the actual
debris that and his experience after this and is not going to be something
that uh... you just sorta have
everything in closure in thirty days
so we'll be right alongside them you know in our state we're still doing
the rebuilding process and that will be equally true I'm sure in oklahoma so as
we pray this morning
let us remember
our fellow citizens of oklahoma our fellow baptist there
who were trying to give a cup of cold water in jesus name as a very
appropriate time
