At this point I would like to talk briefly about drying tips. Now this is just for test
tile so it really doesn't need to be, the concerns aren't there so much because as it
dries or if it twists or if we get a little crack in it it is not going to be a big problem.
But it is important to know with clay that it needs to dry out slowly and evenly otherwise
you can form cracks and distort your clay during the drying process. I like to use drying
racks like this and simply place it down. You can take these out and in like this and
I have shelves that will move up and down. This is just a small drying rack. They come
in very large sizes. This one here is open on the sides. This is because we are in Eugene,
Oregon right now and it is winter time and the air is very moist. In the summer time
when it is dry I like to have a closed in closet and it has a door in the front that
seals in the moisture so that you can load everything inside and close it on. So those
are some general drying tips for clay and next we will be leaving this in here for the
night and letting it dry out and next I will show you how to cut the individual tiles of
this piece so that you can use them for testing your blazes.
