When using ratcheting wire cutters, you need to first measure the wire and mark it so it's
easily visible. You can then either slide the wire cutters down the wire or just set
it at the mark and snap it across and begin ratcheting. Once it's set, just squeeze the
handle over and over and over again until you've cut through.
Tim: Now that we've seen how ratcheting wire cutters are used, I wanted to bring our project
manager Cliff in to tell us a little bit about when they're used.
Cliff: Well, Tim, ratcheting cable cutters are used when you use wire from the size of
8 AWG to 750 MCM.
Tim: What does that mean?
Cliff: That means it makes it easier for the operator with one handed operation to hold
the wire so it doesn't drop or hit their foot or something like that.
Tim: That is easy. Would you ever use it on large cables or just wire?
Cliff: Yes, yes, you'd use it on large cables. We've got a 4 conductor number 10 cable downstairs
and it's the same ratcheting motion that you can use on that as well.
Tim: Great, Cliff. Thanks! Well, thanks for joining us and we'll see you next time!
