On behalf of Expert Village my name is Niall O'Leary from the Niall O'Leary School of Irish
Dance in New York City and today I'm demonstrating intermediate Irish step dancing. The next
move is called the stamp hop. A very popular feature in Irish dance is where you stamp
the floor loudly. The stamp typically is really a wrestling move, if somebody is asleep in
the front row they wake up as soon as you do a stamp. So the thing with a stamp is that
the actual move involves putting your full foot on the floor with some force. But the
question is where do you go from here? You can't hop, you can't leap if foot goes on
the floor. So here we're going to do stamp hop and watch how in slow motion I put my
foot from the floor but as soon as I land I roll up on my toes and then I'm going to
do a hop. So naturally with that you don't leave your foot up from the floor but you
roll onto your toes as soon as you land and then we're going to hop. So this combination
is stamp hop, so see how I can get high off the floor by first rolling up on my toes and
then pushing off when I'm on my toes. Once more...
