Hi, My name is Gary Mitnick. I?m a sculptor here in Sedona, Arizona, and I?m here on behalf
of Expert Village. Another sculpture that we're almost done with, what we've done is
we've got it put together, and we marked up any imperfections in the metal. Then we weld
it, smooth it, use different tools, to do all the work we need to do. Different texture
burrs, different pads, all sorts of things, this is a just a small handful of what we
use. We use dental burrs that look like, you almost can't see the top. This can get things
in the eyelids, and little imperfections. Once we get it looking as good as we want,
or the artist wants it, or as we can get it. Then we go to the patina stage. These are
sculptures from a local artist. This has been turned black and buffed back, so now you're
seeing a nice buffed surface, but you also have black in the in the creases, it gives
it a nice shadow effect. This has had the same thing done, but it has also been sprayed
with a chemical, which will oxidize the metal, turning it, in this case a nice bronze, or
what everyone things is a nice bronze color. It's actually a chemical that gives it that
nice golden color or reddish color or sometimes green, black, silver. Different chemicals
oxidize and change the metals makeup, just at the very surface, so it gives it a different
look.
