Mom, I'm going out. What should I wear? What's the weather?
Well, it's going to get hot today, then cool down, the rain, then get hot again and cool down.
You need to wear layers. Lots and lots of layers. Come on, I'll help you.
Mom, this is ridiculous.
Well, unless you can think of a better answer, you have to wear layers.
Mom, I'm going out.
Avian, no, I told you. You've got to wear layers!
Mom, relax. She's wearing a shirt made by Outlast Technologies.
It uses technology developed by NASA for space suits.
It uses micro-encapsulated phase change materials, or PCX for short.
This technology keeps your body a constant temperature in different conditions.
The molecules in my shirt actually change phases. They absorb, store, or release heat
depending on my body temperature.
I don't get it. Come on, we'll show you.
Think of my body as this pan, and the butter as my jacket.
When my body--the pan--gets warm, the jacket absorbs the heat and changes phases.
The jacket now looks like the butter...at a microsopic level, of course.
If my body cools down, it absorbs the heat stored in the jacket.
Now look at the jacket as it turns into a solid again.
Just like the butter!
Thank goodness for Outlast Technology. I am so glad they partnered with NASA to develop temperature-adapting materials.
This technology will help many people.
It will be used in sheets, clothing, cars, and sleeping bags, as well as the future of space exploration.
Because the benefits are so widespread, I think they deserve the OPTIMUS PRIME award.
Mom, I'm going out.
Okay! Stay temperature-stable in your Outlast clothing. See you soon!
