Obsessed With Everything Cheer
Kelly Smith, Courtney Smith-Pope's younger sister, used to be on Senior Elite.
Courtney used to make Senior Elite stunt on their left legs, instead of their right ones.
Many of the big gyms we know and love today, including World Cup, Cheer Extreme, and Cheer Athletics, were founded in the same year: 1994.
That means that for some of you watching, you're as old as these gyms.
Cheer Athletics is now the world's largest all star gym.
But back at its first practice, only two athletes showed up. And where did that practice take place? At a public park in Plano, Texas.
In 1998, Casey Jones purchased the American Cheer Academy from Tate Chalk, the man who later went on to found Nfinity—
—and yes, I'm talking about the shoes. In 2002, Casey renamed the gym, calling it 'Stingray All Stars.' And the rest is history.
If Roger Schonder, the All Star Director of Stingray All Stars, hadn't started working at Stingrays, he would be a pilot right now.
Just think how funny it would be if he had to fly an all star team to Worlds!
Jeff McQueen and Tannaz Emamjomeh were both cast in Bring It On. The two met on set and became best friends
and the next year (they) went on to found California All Stars. They were also cast in Bring It On Again,
and in 2009, Cali Large Coed was featured in Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, performing their Worlds 2009 routine.
By the way, Tannaz was a Clover and a Stinger.
The very first all star team was the Q94 Rockers, from Richmond VA, founded in 1982 by a woman named Hilda McDaniel, also know as the Mother of All Star Cheerleading.
Their colors were red, white, and Columbia blue, and they went around going to school competitions until the NCA began an all star division in 1987.
Practically everything you see in all star, from the big bows, to the crop tops to the fast paced routines, were Hilda's idea.
In fact, she even helped found the USASF.
The Cheer Athletics Panthers actually competed as a Large Senior All-Girl 5 team at the first Worlds back in 2004.
