Softball Nutrition - Why Fat is Good for You
Hey there. This is Coach Marc from softballperformance.com. Today I would like to talk to you about why
Female athletes need to consume essential fatty acids commonly called EFA. This is basically
complicated term to mention good fats. You see, most people think that eating fats is
not good for you and indeed certain types of fats are really bad for you. They are basically
detrimental to your health, they are detrimental to your performance and you should avoid them
as much as possible. Now, there are some type of fats that are very good for you and that’s
why we call them essential fatty acids, they are essential for reason. They maintain your
body and good health, they allow you to live a fulfilling life and make sure that you’re
performing at your best mentally and physically.
I have listed some of the benefits here in consuming essential fatty acids in a relationship
to a good performance on the field or it can affect your performance on the softball field.
You see, it will help you increase brain function. Essential fatty acids are responsible for
maintaining brain function and increasing the ability to think, make quick decision,
having good judgment. It is one of the things that you need in order to make excellent decision.
When you think about it, softball is all about quick decision making. You have to decide
in an instant wither or not you going to swing a pitch. You have to read the ball that’s
hit and in instant decide I’m going right, I’m going left. You know if you are playing
third base, you don’t have a lot of time to decide and to read the ball and process
information. So it’s going to speed up your ability process and read and process the information
using the brain, major benefit.
Now, another benefit is also a mood regulator, it will enhance your mood. You see, softball
is a very frustrating game. Often times, we get frustrated, cranky, we lost patience,
just because we want to play well or it doesn’t happen or we may have or react to a bad decision,
from the empire or coach decision that weren’t happy with or something that teammates said.
Anything that gets us cranky in a bad mood, you see, good essential fatty acids help mood
regulation actually improving a supplement or something that you should eat when people
are depress but it’s not just when people have depression, it’s good for everybody
that wants to be in a better mood. So it helps you increasing mood and feel in a better mood,
off course your performance will be better.
It also supports joint and connective tissue health. You see, your joints are all about
your ankle, your knees, your hips, your shoulders, your elbows, and your wrist. Every joints
in a body is important and we tend to hurt our joints when we overuse them. So in softball,
a lot of what we do is over use with throw pitch, so it will help you maintain your joint
health and also your connective tissue health. Your connective tissues are your tendency
ligaments that basically would attaches muscles to your bones, or keep the bones together
or link the joints together and keep them stable. It does play a major role in keeping
your joints and your connective tissues healthy. Definitely good things to have in order to
prevent injuries especially overuse injuries which are very common in our sports. It will
also reduce your recovery time. It speeds up recovery for the reason that it prevents
the inflammation or reduces the inflammation after you have used the joint or you’ve
hurt the joint or muscle. So you see, once you’ve overused the joint, let’s see a
pitcher and you throw out that day, its natural reaction of the body to have that some kind
of inflammation your shoulder muscle and your joint. Well essential fatty acid does a player
role in maintaining the inflammation dam, thus speeding up the recovery. So it will
help you recover faster between games, between winnings and also the crisis severity of the
inflammation.
Another significant benefit is also reduces the PMS syndrome basically the symptoms of
PMS. When the young ladies have premenstrual syndrome, some of them are greatly affected
with____, bad mood, headaches, different things that happen, they are all the symptoms of
PMS. Well essential fatty acids do player role in decreasing of severity of those symptoms.
So if your game is affected by premenstrual syndrome then it will be reduced by consuming
regularly essential fatty acids. This is one of the major benefits that you also get from
consuming good essential fatty acids. One of the benefits that does support muscle repair
hormone level. So in other words, softball is a speed power sports. You do all need the
speed, the strengths and the power that you have and these is generated by a muscles.
What keep your muscles healthy are various hormones, one of those hormones is the testosterone,
and even you ladies have testosterone. Enough to the extent if what males, the level of
males but you do have some testosterone and the testosterone is responsible for making
sure that your muscles are repaired and they are healthy. So when you use them, when you
hurt them, when you do work out, practices, there are macro tears in your muscles that
happens and basically overnight when you’re at rest, your body does repair those macro
tears the one that hormones are responsible for repairing those muscle tears. Tears are
basically the testosterone and essential fatty acids support the production of testosterone.

Most of the benefits that I’ve talked about in the relationship to your performance on
the softball fields but essential fatty acids are also linked to a lot of other health benefits.
Just to name the few of them, they are linked to the reduction of _______ problem so it
helps you keep your heart healthy, keep your blood pressure down also helps you reduce
of the incidence of certain types of cancer. So reduce the chance of getting some types
of cancer and a lot more benefits. Basically, this is a very very important thing to eat
and to get in your diet. So where you find good essential fatty acid, well basically
there are several sources. One of them are any kind of seafood mostly fish, Nuts, especially
raw nuts,¬¬¬¬¬___, almonds and other types of nuts, either in the form of oil or
nuts themselves. You find them also in avocados, avocado’s is an excellent source of fatty
acids and finally you’ll get them in vegetable oil like olive oil or other types of vegetable
oil. Now some people won’t get all of the essential fatty acids that they need so another
form they can get them is in a supplement form and there are all kinds of fish oil supplements
out there, omega supplements. Omega 3 by the way, when you see that, you know this is something
that most people heard before but they don’t have any idea what it is. It is one type of
essential fatty acid. So omega 3 is type of essential fat or good fat to eat, so omega
3 is a good thing for you. You’ll find them in other sources too like egg, especially
organic eggs.
However, personally, I try to eat as healthy as possible but life gets on the way in sometimes,
they don’t get all the essential fatty acids knowing for well the good benefits I get out
of it. So what I tried to do is I tried to get them the supplement form. Now you can
go all there and find all kinds of supplement. Personally I recommend the staff from you
