On behalf of Expert Village, I am Benjamin Ford Asriel. Um, I'm with Dance Lab NYC here
at Stepping Out Studios, and today we'll be talking about post-modern dance. So, often
times in post-modern, or contemporary, or even modern dance, sometimes ballet, recently,
if you?re in ballet, um, there's a real slim version of traditional gender roles. Men lift
women, women lift women, women lift men, men lift men. Um, it's not always a gendered,
man lift woman with hands, and its strong situation. Um, will you pick me up? Sure!
So, um, specifically, she can lift me. (laughing) easily, right? Um, that happens because our
pelvises are connected. Um, and this is a simple lift that comes from pretty much contact
improv, which was started by Steve Paxton, if you want, some more information is available
about that. But, um, what you could do is just this simple lift that we did before.
Just establish this connection, so that my pelvis is touching her pelvis. She is going
to take my arm forward, and then that's going to allow me to release my weight onto her.
