Forch how are you going, Jules.
You have to speak up. What are you doing? I'm wearing my suit.
Mate, this is not a crime scene. This a fireworks barge. Fireworks barge. Flammable material.
Whoos ga if it goes off. It's looks cool, though. It looks silly, Jules. Let's go. Let's
get changed and do it again. Come on. I want to bring the mask because I had garlic prawns
last night. You wouldn't want to smell that. So, what's the difference between the 9pm
and the midnight fireworks. Um, look obviously 9pm is more towards families there's a few
fun type fireworks. When you say fun, what do you mean? We put a lot of shapes type fireworks
like smiley faces, butterflies with green eyes .um and that type of thing so it's more
kid stuff. and all fireworks are for kids anyways, but these are more dedicated to kids.
you have kids, do they input into the design. Look, obviously we play the music for them
and once we get the music to the fireworks, they have their little say. Whether we listen
to them is another story. With kids, did you just have the best birthday parties for them
ever with fireworks going off in the background and that type of stuff. Yeah, look, when I
was growing up, obviously I grew up in a family that did fireworks. Um, back then, there was
a lot of consumer fireworks, which were small and were able to buy over the counter, but
you could say we had some good cracker nights, so to speak, and I've been doing it ever since.
SO, it's a family tradition. 7 generations and its great. Do you have a favourite firework
yourself? Mate, all fireworks are great. It's one of those things that tend to entertain
a lot of people of all ages and um, I get a buzz do it any time. Do you think you have
to be a bit of a kid at heart to be in this industry. I think you've got to be crazy to
do it, but obviously, we work public holidays, weekends, so when everyone's sort of relaxing,
we're doing work, but you know, we're enetertaining people and that's what we like to do. And
that's what we'll keep doing. And, 9pm fireworks, how long have they been around for? They've
pretty much been around since for new year's eve for as long as I can remember, since I've
been doing them, that's 17 years now. So, um, I suppose it's part mainly because if
the kids want to see fireworks before, they'd stay for the midnight ones and go to bed.
It's a good thing and hopefully the tradition will continue. As a pyrotechnician, I guess
is that the term, am I using it...sometimes pyrotechnician. Sometimes pyromaniac. Depending
on which way you want to look at it. Pyromaniac? Yeah, were you able to do those things like
the magician's do like the flash and there'a puff of smoke and you can just disappear.
Yes, we have plenty of those tricks up our sleeves. Yeah, we're a manufacturer of fireworks
which gives us sort of an edge on doing fireworks so we don't just display the fireworks, we
also manufacture them, so we know fireworks from the raw chemicals to what you see in
the finished products so it tends to, to be able to do things that we, other people can't
do, create new ideas, new effects and uh, we love doing what we do and hopefully it
shows in the work that we do. And, this 9pm fireworks going to be the best ever? I know
you always get asked that, but is it above and beyond what we saw last year? Look as
I was saying to people it's, we try to make it different which makes it better. People
will go away saying, "Yep we haven't seen that before," and they'll remember that 1
or 2 things and then, we'll have done our job. And, finally, we're about to see them,
the 9pm fireworks, is there anything we should look out for, is there a favourite moment
that we're going to see. Uh, look, obviously you need to listen to the music, there's a
shape firework, the smiley faces, which are a bit of a crowd pleaser. Um, and the brocade
moment, which is sort of a gold, silver willow, which grows and grows to crescendo. Well,
there you go, the 9pm fireworks. [MUSIC PLAYS]
