hi there keene state biology crew so we're going to use image j one more
time
this time to ask it to find the area of a particular slide
in order to do that we have to take a couple of different steps to make
sure it this is going to work properly
we're going to use the analyzed tool right here
and from the analyze menu the first thing we
do is set the scale
i don't have the appropriate scaling for this
so hopefully in the future what you would do is make sure that you
could see the scale
because it's going to ask me to establish a
distance of pixels that's relative
to
a distance of measurement
so for example might say that this is not true right now i'm just gonna
the give you this is an example we're going to say that three hundred
pixels
represents a known distance of one and the unit is millimeters
so you can see here that this is giving me a scale of three hundred pixels per
millimeter now that's important because once we using actual
analytic measure tool
is going to use that as a baseline for giving us a number of units
so say okay here
if i want to know the surface area i'll grab this regular shaped tool
and then what i have to do is drag all around the outline
of my specimen
and i'm not to do a perfect job here cuz im going a little bit fast
but you get the idea you want to try and stay as close to
the outline of your specimens possible all the way around the edges
really messed that one of royally
and so once we get back here join these together
and now i use the analyze button i can hit measure so that we will popup
window here and it will tell me
based on the scale that ive set that this is five point six
seven seven
millimeters is the area
of this particular slide
hope that helps
have a great day
hope theres lots of analysis going on
cheers everybody
