Hi I’m Bryan Peterson and your watching Adorama TV.
I find myself here today at Crown Fountain in downtown Chicago
expecting to shoot just reflections of both people and buildings in this
wonderful fountain which is only about a quarter inch deep, but to my other
amazement and surprise
I find a wonderful dragonfly just right on the surface on the water.
Yes it is dead but that doesn't mean I can't photograph it and bring it back to
life.
Adorama TV presents You Keep Shooting with Bryan Peterson.
Hey this morning I came down here to Crown fountain in downtown Chicago
with the intention photographing all the potential reflections of both people and
buildings here in Crown fountain
and as you can see in the background this is indeed a mirrored
opportunity to shoot a lot of reflections. But what really
caught my eye was a dragonfly. You'll see it right here, a small dragonfly that has
clearly passed away but yet found himself
right here on top of this water surface behind that dragonfly what do I have?
I've got a wonderful
building of downtown Chicago. So the blending of the two
I'm gonna have dragonfly with building in the background.
How am I gonna pull that off? Real simple I'm gonna be shooting this photograph at
f/22, maximum depth of field. I could actually go to 36 with a macro lens I have the
Nikkor
105mm but I'm not gonna do that much depth of field,I don't need it. At f/22
I'm focusing on the Dragonfly. The camera self timer mode is engaged.
Five-second delay.
I'm not touching the camera. Take a look at the photograph. f/22,
1/8th of a second, 200 ISO. I think you'll agree
its the best combination of any city, nature photograph you've seen in some time.
I know I'm quite thrilled about it and clearly this was one hundred percent
unexpected. Hi this is Bryan Petersen
