Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we're going to talk about how to grow balloon
flower or platycodon grandiflorum. It's a beautiful perennial that has gorgeous balloon
shaped flowers all up and down the stems. They come in gorgeous blues and whites and
pinks and they're just a gorgeous addition to the garden. So you can start them by seed
in the spring, you can put them right into the garden or you can start them inside or
you can get the divisions by the root and you can start them in the spring or the fall
or in the middle of winter. And they're pretty hardy, I know down to probably even the third
or forth zone, they are native to China and Japan and even into Russia and Siberia so
they can handle quite cold temperatures. And they have beautiful bright blue flowers that
you can actually pop and then the seeds will go pop and they make a little popping noise
when you pop them. Balloon flower or platycodon is a beautiful plant that deserves front stage
in your garden.
