I often say that Halton Region's a great place to live, work,
raise a family, and retire.
It's also a great place to do business.
Recently Siemens and Target announced they would be coming to Halton Region.
This will create thirteen hundred jobs
in our Region.
As part of our Citizens Priority Action Plan,
we've made retaining jobs, and creating jobs a priority for this Council.
That's why I'm here today, at the Bronte Village Mall, at the Employment
Halton office.
In 2010, the provincial government
gave Halton Region $700,000
to deliver the Employment ontario programs for the residents on Halton.
This will help us improve and
ensure that the job seekers and employer's get the services they need
in Halton Region.
Employment Halton offers and accessible employment resource centre, complete with
one-on-one support
to help people search for job,
explore career options, and access programs and funding for apprenticeship
and career development programs.
These services are free and are available to anyone in Halton who is
searching for a job.
Hi, I'm George Athen, I'm a job coach with Employment Halton.
My role here at the centre is to assist individuals to find a job or training
that they are looking for.
Many people visit our centre for various reasons.
Some people come here for help with a resume, some people come here for
assistance with their interview techniques or any other job search assistance.
You can visit the center any time and book an appointment with a job coach.
>>Chair Carr: In addition to the services provided by job coaches
visitors to Employment Halton
can also access our resource center which includes:
a library, complete with business directories, newspapers, and books;
electronic job banks,
and accessible workstations and software to support individuals with their job
search.
Employment Halton
also operates
www.haltonjobs.ca,
a free online job posting service that benefits
jobseekers as well as employers in the Region
In our first year,
we had 8,000 visitors
to our office
and helped 190 employers.
I'm proud of the work that Employment Halton has done
in finding jobs for residents of Halton Region.
If you're having trouble getting to a job interviews or is transportation's a
problem
Split Pass can help you.
Our Split Pass pilot program
helps pay fifty percent or more of the cost of a monthly bus pass.
This program is offered in partnership with the transit services in Burlington,
Milton and Oakville.
If you have a low-income, I would encourage you to call Halton Region to
find out if you qualify for this program.
