[CHEERING]
CLARICE: When people come together, you know, great things happen.
I'm glad they came out and did this for our kids.
DAVID: It's a great event. I've never seen so many volunteers as I've seen today.
This is the end result of a great partnership, and I couldn't be more thankful to
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, the Chicago Bulls, the Cook County
Housing Authority -- without that partnership we wouldn't see what we see here today.
And Chicago Heights wouldn't be able to build this park for these kids.
KATRINA: Our goal or our vision is to make sure every kid has a safe place to play
walking distance. These kids didn't have one. So we're here to make sure that when
they come home from school or on the weekend or here for the summer that they have this great
playground to go play and be active and just stay healthy. Blue Cross and Blue Shield,
what they do lines up really well with what KaBOOM! does which is keeping people
fit, keeping them healthy and keeping them active.
MANIKA: It truly gives the message that we care for communities that we serve.
And that we are going to be here, we are going to be here as long as the
communities are here we're going to be here continuing to serve...this is what we do,
this is who we are...this is living our purpose.
CHRIS: I think it's a real success. I mean you really don't see much happening around
here like this for us, so I think It's great for the kids. It's gonna show us out here that people
actually do care and are willing to help us.
RANDY: It's kind of remarkable to see a playground come together so fast. I didn't think it could
be done, but it's kind of remarkable seeing it all come together.
NANCY: Getting everybody involved here, getting their hands dirty, and working together as
a team is really what sports is all about.
TINA: There is a little exhaustion, but it's such a good feeling because we're building
a playground. How can you have a bad mood or a bad spirit about what we're doing today.
NANCY: Look around and look at all these people and the smiles on the faces that they now
have and the smile that will continue on with everybody who gets to come and enjoy this,
it's endless and it's wonderful.
