Hello my friends and welcome to another Tuesday of tutorial!
I am Leonardo Pereznieto and today we will sketch a cougar.
Let´s begin by drawing the general shape of the head, which is pretty rounded.
This is not looking like a circle at all [laughter]
but it's good enough.
This is going to be very easy. Then divide it in half, vertically,
and just above the middle point,
horizontally.
These lines are actually not totally vertically
and horizontally, because the head will be slightly tilted.
Then draw the neck which is as wide as the head.
We indicate a little bit of the body and then the paw, with a few simple
strokes, like this.
We sketch the eyes and nose and mouth, using our original
guidelines.
Then the triangular ears toward the sides.
The eyes are small and then underneath we have the nose
and the snout.
With a shape like this, and the lower jaw.
Ok, good!
That was the main sketch.
Now we begin drawing more detail and highlighting some
of the darks.
We will also start shading.
They have a darker line through the middle of the head
and a spot above each eye.
Let´s draw some foldings of the skin, that sometimes
they have.
And I draw the paw, slightly bigger than in reality
so that it gives the effect that it is close to us.
We can do a rapid shading with short strokes, so as
to render the texture of the fur.
The sides of the muzzle are dark, but toward the middle it becomes
almost white.
And I will darken further this line that I mentioned before.
Because with the shading I almost lost it.
I love mountain lions!
They are such lovely creatures.
For this little sketch I have been using carbon pencils,
which are made with a mixture of graphite and charcoal
compressed powder.
I listed the exact materials in the description below the video.
Let´s draw him some whiskers like this… from the side of the snout
of course,
we give it the last touches, the last details…
And it´s ready!
