Seri Irazola: Hi, my name is Seri Irazola, and I work at
ICF International.
I'm the principal investigator on the National Evaluation
of SAVIN, which is here and where we presented today.
It is an evaluation, a program evaluation.
So BJA operates different SAVIN programs which provide
victims information and notification on their offenders'
whereabouts in the criminal justice system.
And we are doing a program evaluation to understand the
implementation effects and the outcome, the effectiveness
of these kinds of programs.
We have a very victim-centric approach.
We wanted to understand how the system is working for
victims, and so we did a survey of crime victims, and for
the most part, more than 80 percent of them said that they
were satisfied or extremely satisfied with these types of
programs for those that are registered and self-defined
crime victims.
I think that for crimes, it's necessary for them to have
access to notification.
They need to know where their offenders are in the system,
and if an offender has a transfer that the victim is
unaware of, they need to be able to have access to those
offenders.
