Whenever I ask my patients, "Do you protect yourself from the sun," the answer's is almost
always, "Yes, I wear sunscreen." But it's important to know that there are many other
things you can do to protect yourself from the damaging rays of UV light. Number one
is clothing. Wear a hat. Wear clothing that covers the majority of your body, when you
know you are going to be outside on a very sunny day. There are specific UV protective
clothing you can buy, that will make sure that you get SPF 100 or above UV protection.
Also, if you don't have a lot of hair, wearing a hat is very important. Applying sunscreen
every two hours is important, as in the majority of the time the sunscreen output, will deactivate
after two hours. Not using tan booths is yet another way to make sure that you're protected
from UV lights. These simple, behavioral modifications can make sure that you get the maximum amount
of protection from damaging UV light.
