The program that you're seeing here
was organized by artist Joanna Malinowska,
an artist in the 2012 Whitney Biennial.
[Music]
Joanna's interested in Anthropology and
the collision of different cultures
and what she's organized for this evening
was a series of disparate performers.
The first portion of the evening was
the Hungry March Band and
the band split into two, one half of
the band began in our Sculpture Court,
one half of the band began outside.
And they were each playing entirely
different pieces and then they
marched together and collided musically
and physically in the Whitney's Lower Gallery.
After the Hungry March Band performed
we Skyped in with protestors
who were marching to protest the imprisonment
of Leonard Peltier, a Native American
activist who was jailed for allegedly
murdering an FBI agent, and Joanna
has included a painting of Peltier's
in her installation in the Whitney Biennial.

After the Skype call, we saw a
performance by Masami Tomihisa on a
toy piano and then at the very conclusion
of the piece on the toy piano
we all joined her in a rousing howl
at the Moonlight Sonata and howled for
a good five to eight minutes.
[Howling]
And then at the end of the howl
the Hungry March Band joined in again
and concluded the evening with
a series of marching band numbers.
