Benito Juarez was president of Mexico from 1861-72.
He wanted to create a democratic federal republic.
Porfirio Diaz was president from 1876-1911.
Diaz is a figure of controversy.
The people did not like him as a leader, because they were often left out of the loop on what he was doing.
The two major causes of the revolution were discontent with President Diaz's rule and the exploitation of the working class.
There was a social clash between those who were Spanish born and those who were Mexican born.
Diaz decided to resign, so Francisco Madero decided he wanted to become President.
Diaz changed his mind.
He secretly sent Madero to jail so that he could keep his position.
When Madero returned to Mexico, he started a revolutionary movement.
There were two rebellions. Emiliano led the rebellion from the South.
Their goal was to gain their lands back.
Pancho Villa led the rebellion in the North.
Their goal was to have their own lands to work on.
This map shows the major battles that took place during the Mexican Revolution.
Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa were different from other mexican revolutionary leaders.
They both had the support of the people and neither of them had any military rank prior to the revolution.
They did all that they could to improve Mexico.
Both of these men were courageous enough to rebel against the government.
People of all kind fought for Mexico.
Men, women, and children participated in the revolution.
This was one of the many children who were raised to see the government as their enemy.
The battles were fought with cannons, guns, and machetes.
The battles were bloody, but not as intense as one might expect.
Victoriano Huerta had served Francisco Madero.
Then part of the army in Mexico City rebelled against Madero and Huerta joined them.
Huerta killed his successor,Madero.
Then he was overthrown.
The crowd cheered as the war between Porfirio and the people had ended.
