My name is Robert Aldridge and I’m the Environment Leader
on the City of Edinburgh Council.
First of all can I thank you for your patience
during this period where we’ve had a dispute with
some of our refuse collection and street cleaning staff.
The dispute isn’t over yet but we are working hard
behind the scenes to get it resolved as quickly as possible.
At the moment our domestic refuse collection is back on schedule
and our trade waste collection scheme is working normally.
We’ve got more people than ever involved
picking up litter and cleaning the streets.
As you know during this exciting festival time in the city,
the population more than doubles, so it’s important that
we make sure that our streets are as clean
and tidy as possible.
So I’d ask you if you are enjoying the festivals
and the fantastic atmosphere out there, could I ask you
to dispose of your litter thoughtfully and carefully,
to recycle as much as you can, but most of all
to enjoy yourself during this wonderful time in this beautiful city.
Thank you very much.
