Now if you hang around in a poker tournament long enough, you're going to cash. A lot of
people play to cash like it's a really big deal. Well, a really big deal is coming in
the top three of a poker tournament. So, it's key if you want to be the guy that comes in
the top three of a poker tournament to take advantage of the people who just want to cash.
The time leading up to the position where the first person cashes is called the bubble.
Let's say that you're in a poker tournament with a hundred players, about ten of those
players depending upon structure are going to cash, and so the time leading up to the
bubble are when there are twenty or less players. It is at this point that you need to take
advantage of the other players tight play because even if they are kind of low stack,
they are going to tighten up. Because hey they want to cash. They want to be able to
say I cashed in X tournament. Okay. Given that information, if I'm on the button and
I look down and I see jack ten, even if it's unsuited, and I know that the big blind is
a tight player, I'm gonna push all my chips in. Because I've got kind of a short stack
here, my M is about six here. Okay. Let's say that I'm in the small blind, and I've
got this size stack. You know what, if I've got this size stack and I'm right before the
button, or on the button or in the small blind, and I look down at jack ten, I know this guy's
tight, I'm gonna raise, I'm gonna abuse him. I'm gonna say raise and I'm gonna go up to
three or four times the big blind. And you know what, if I raise, and even if he has
jack ten, he's a tight guy, he's trying to make it past the bubble. He's trying to just
barely cash. He's gonna fold. I take down the pot.
