So, I've been asked to talk about what my funniest moment as a nutritionist is. And
believe it or not, that's a challenging question for me because I don't really find my job
particularly funny. However, there are a few funny moments, and I think one of the things
that comes up, you know, even when I was starting and studying nutrition, and I would babysit.
I would go over to people's houses and babysit, and they'd ask me what I was studying. I would
say nutrition and they would automatically, no fail, say, oh my gosh, don't look in my
cupboards, don't look in my cabinets. You know, and so they would always have this approach
like, as though I was there to degrade them for what they ate. And still to this day,
if I, you know, I'm having lunch with people, or if I walk up to a table, and I'm talking
to one person, and they say, oh, so what do you do. I'm a nutritionist. Everyone says,
don't look at what I'm eating, you know, this is not, don't judge. And I do find that funny
because, as a nutritionist, I went through a stage that, I was kind of like a Jehovah's
witness of nutrition, and I wanted to teach everybody. Didn't matter whether you wanted
the information or not, I wanted to teach it to you, and tell you why, and now that
I've been in the field for many years, and I've realized, you know what, this isn't something
that I need to impress upon everybody, and I kind of laugh when people get all scared
about what I'm going to think, because nutrition is for anybody. I mean, what if I was having
lunch with a financial adviser, and said, don't look at my saving account, don't look
at my 401K, lack there of, you know. If I'm not asking for the advice, or if my client
isn't asking for the advice, I accept everybody as they are, and realize that not everyone's
goal immediately is to become the healthiest individual they can be.
