Why I wanted to do 'Up at the O2' as a fundraising challenge is because the O2 Arena is the Second Music Venue to reach the Gold Status
and we thought well you know everywhere at the O2 is accessible, to prove this why not send me up in the Da Vinci wheelchair
and everyone can see that anyone can come 'Up at the O2'
Attitude is Everything improves Deaf and Disabled peoples access to live music
it works with audiences and artists in the music industry.
We base it on a Charter of Best Practice, Music Venues and Festivals sign up to the Charter. There are three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold
it shows them how to make their Music Venue or Festival accessible
not just for audiences but for artists and any employees that are Deaf or Disabled.
With the Gold status, what you have to do is consistantly maintain that you are accessible and the O2 could demonstrate that
We send Disabled people that are Mystery Shoppers out to all Music Venues and Festivals across the UK
there were constant reports coming back from the O2 to say this is brilliant, it is really easy, I have a good view and there is a good sound.
The whole experience was easy, from being able to book an accessible ticket through the booking line
right to arriving, parking at the O2, you come in and enjoyed the concert
The climb team really talked through everything, I certainly had the information about the chair beforehand
so it meant I could explain what my access requirements were, everyone is pretty relaxed about it
and that makes you relaxed as well
I thought I would be terrified! If I am really being honest about it I was thinking for the last two weeks
'Oh god I have to do it at this point in time, I have raised well over £1000, well over the fundraising target, I really have to do it'
'There is no backing out of it now' and actually I am feeling quite good!
Attitude is Everything! Which is why we are called Attitude is Everything as an organisation. It really is
You might make somewhere physically accessible but if people do not make you feel welcome, you are not going to have a good experience
The two definately go hand in hand really
