Hi, I'm Karl O'Callaghan and in my role as Western Australia's Police Commissioner, I'm
helping to make tomorrow better.
Since first joining the police force as a 17 year old cadet in the early '70s, I have
held a number of positions in both Perth and throughout regional Western Australia before
being appointed Commissioner in 2004.
Throughout my career I have also completed a Bachelor of Education and later a PhD at
Curtin University, learning crucial skills which have been essential in my position.
In my time as Commissioner I have overseen and implemented widespread cultural, business
and process changes in order for the West Australian police to best service the people
in the state.
In the future I hope to be guiding the West Australian police to be working much more
closely with the youth of our state to try and prevent some of the harms we are seeing
on the street today.
Since I began my time in the Police Force my focus has been on serving the people of
Western Australia. While the job has lots of challenges it is also extremely rewarding
because most of our work is spent assisting people in times of crisis. By ensuring that
police are promoting the safety and well being of all West Australians, today and in the
future, I am helping make tomorrow better.
