[Music] Hi and welcome to this video from the Buffalo
& Erie County Public Library. In today’s video, we’re going to show you how to download
the Freegal App, which allows you to go ahead and download mp3s to your mobile device. This
could be used on any type of mobile device. I have a Nexus 7 here by Google. You could
do it on an iPad, an iPhone, an Android, a Tablet, an Android phone. As long as you have
access to either the Google Play store or the iTunes store, you can go ahead and do
it because we have to get the Freegal App. So to get it on this device, I’m going to
tap on the Google Play store. At this point I will search for the Freegal App. The Freegal
App – we can type in the name Freegal here. I have it already saved so I’m going to
type on it there. It’ll pop up here first on the list hopefully. Tap on it. Get some
information about it if you want. Tap on “Install” or “Free” and then “Install.” And
then it’ll give you some terms and you just go ahead and hit “Accept” and “Download,”
and then you can go ahead and download the app.
Now Freegal allows you to download up to three mp3s that are DRM free, which means Digital
Rights Management free. What that means in layman’s terms is they’re yours to keep
forever on your device. Buffalo & Erie County Public Library allows you up to three of these
song downloads per week. So our app should be downloaded now. I’m
going to go ahead and look at our homepage here. The Freegal App pops up. You can go
ahead and tap on Freegal here to open up the application. The first thing it’s going
to ask you is for geolocation – your current location. You can go ahead and hit “Don’t
Allow” here, because what we’re going to do here is actually type in a zip code.
I’m going to hit numbers and type in 14203. Once again, that’s 14203. That’s the zip
code for the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. A whole list of libraries will come
up. The first one up there should be Buffalo & Erie County Library. So, tap that to tell
Freegal that’s where you’re getting your song allocation from.
It’s going to ask for your card number. So go ahead and make sure your card’s handy
and you could type in it. I’m going to paste it in. I had it set up before. And then it’s
going to ask you for a pin number too. So if you tap in there you have to enter in your
four-digit pin. If you don’t have a pin number associated with your Buffalo & Erie
County Public Library card, you can go into any library and set one up.
Tap in “Login.” We are – after we hit “Agree” on the Terms of Use, we’re now
in the Freegal App, and we can kind of look at some of the more popular songs here. They
have a national Top 10 – a library Top 10. Down here at the bottom, you can go ahead
and use these different buttons here. Here’s the Home button, which we’re on, and you
could always tap on My Music to see some of the other downloads that you’ve done before.
You could set up playlists. Browse – there’s a nice browse feature here. You could browse
by Top Artists here. Look through all the artists that they have listed here. Top Songs
– you could tap on that. Top Genres – if you’re into country or classical or pop
or anything like that – you can go ahead and search that way.
You could also actually do a search for type, or certain artist or song or album. Artist,
song, album. Type in the artist name, or in this case, I’ll do an album name here. Just
to make things difficult, I’ll do the latest Jack White album which is called Blunderbuss.
I’ll type that in. It’ll go ahead search for it and the songs that are on it.
So here you go. Start scrolling through. You can see all the different songs that are on
there. If you see one you’re interested in, maybe you want to download it, you could
always listen to it by tapping on this little blue triangle that’s on the left here. So
we can hear a sample of that song. You could stop it by tapping on it also.
That might be important, because once again, you’re only allowed three songs per week.
If you look up here, I actually have two of three – that means I’ve already downloaded
three – or two songs this week. So I definitely would want to think about the last one I want
to download. I love that song so I’ll go ahead and download
that. To download you just tap on this arrow that points down here. You tap on the arrow,
it’ll go ahead and start downloading that song. You can see it’s kind of circling
here and downloading the song. Once the song is downloaded, or basically
at any time, you could always hit the “Back” button here. If I hit the “Back” button,
it’ll bring me back to the browse feature or I could actually tap on any of these features.
I could hit the My Music feature, and then that song that I just downloaded there “I’m
Shakin’” is right in there. I can listen to it from within my Freegal App if I want.
I could go ahead and start listening to the song on there. So I’m going to stop it there.
But also it integrates the songs into your native music player or mp3 player if you have
one. I’m just going to go back to my home button
for this Nexus 7. I have the Google Play set up here. If I hit my Google Play you could
see how now these songs are in there. And there are the songs from Blunderbuss, Jack
White. I tap on that and I can go have the songs that I’ve downloaded from that album,
and listen to them in my native player also. So once again, Freegal is a free application
that you can download to use on mobile devices. There is an also Freegal computer-based program
that you can go onto the Buffalo & Erie County website at buffalolib.org and check out, and
download directly to your computer, but this is great on the run. You can get all different
types of songs up to three per week. Thanks for watching this video.
