I would like to welcome you to ITSE2309
Before we being was Chapter One I would like to restate that his class is in two parts -- the lecture portion -- and lab portion
both the lecture assignments and the lab assignments can be worked on concurrently
and that the textbook material the lab material do intersect for the completion of the final product
I would also liked like to outline the upcoming process
there are 15 chapters in this textbook -- each chapter having in a PowerPoint presentation
the presentations follow a standard pattern there is the -- Chapter Objective--the Introduction -- the Chapter Material and the
Chapter Summary -- the presentations are usually about 50 slides with focus on important topics to be considered and studied
the slides are designed in a bullet outline format
to assist you with materials being presented significant items have been underlined
the significant items will surface and other chapters and other locations
they'll be in short audio introduction beginning of each chapter presentation
at the end of the audio introductionyou'll be able to progress to the slides after own comfort level
for this class will be using the 10th edition of the Database Systems, Design, Implementation, textbook --this being the 10th edition
there are other prior editions available -- however the 10th edition is the most current
please note that the supporting resources rely on the pagination of the 10th edition
and as such other editions are available but maybe prove that may prove to be insufficient in overall support
also in conjunction with the textbook I would like to introduce several examples that will be used throughout this class
the first example is that of a doctor's office since most everyone has been to a doctor this is an easy point reference for individuals to follow
the doctor's office scenario will be used illustrates some of the ideas concept and in this textbook
will begin with the fact of the doctor's office was established in 1995 in the center of town and then time progressed in year 2000 a second
office was opened the South part of town and times being as they are by the year 2005 they were able to open a third office on the north side
of town --- now on a golfing weekend event one of the golfing buddies stated that he was about to retire
and is offering to sells his pracrice to his golfing buddies
you can now imagine how does one time small office business has evolved into a more
comples business environment -- to make things more interesting
this proposed foruth location from the golfing buddies is located outside of town in one of the suburbs
you can also begin to see the logistical issues
that envelop in with possibility of aging technologies -- along with also the possibility of different software packages --
the second example to be used is that of a paycheck scenario
this seems very easy for one to follow in that a per hour rate and hours worked can generate many cascade events to follow
the third example is that of a standard department store credit card purchase where we will uses this purchase to track the credit
card transactions through the interconnected computers that will consummate
the transaction
and the fourth example would be that of an Architect -- the construction of a home -- now Chapter One
Chapter One is a generic introductory chapter
this chapter lays the foundation for many of the topics and concepts that will be discussed later in this textbook --
the chapter begins the concepts of data and information and the need to monitor -- track -- record -- manage -- the data relay events
such as in a doctor's office where patients information is collected over time
but when a patients data is searched - it is not search by a timeline but rather in some organized format
now on to Chapter One
