Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Gumball Machine Cakepop Tutorial where I'll be showing
you how to make this adorable little cakepop that looks just like a gumball machine.
Tools and equipment that we will be using today:
I've got a knife, a pair of scissor and a teaspoon.
I've got a zip lock bag. I've got a mini cupcake tray or a mini muffin
tray. And I've got some little mini muffin pans
or mini cupcake pans that sit inside that one.
I've got a pre-rolled cakepop ball. Now this is pre-rolled and it has also been refrigerated
so it's quite nice and firm to touch. We do have a great recipe and tutorial for getting
your cakepops to that consistency if you don't have a good cakepop recipe and I'll leave
a link to that in the description box below. I've got a couple of lollipop sticks.
Some melted red candy melts. Some melted white chocolate or white candy
melts. Some Reese's mini peanut butter cups.
I've got some sprinkles. Now these ones are just edible confetti bright sequins. But you
can see there, they're sort of a quite a bit of a gumball-y looking sprinkles. So if you
don't have those, hundreds and thousands are another good alternative. Otherwise, just
have a look around the sprinkles section and see if you can find something that will be
a similar alternative. And I've got some of my red candy melts and
these ones are not melted so I've kept 3 or 4 of those out just to use for other details.
And I've also got some toothpicks or cocktail sticks.
Let's get started. The first thing that we want to do is make
the base here of the gumball machine. Now, I went a bit of a roundabout [while] doing
this. And you'll see why. What I'm going to do is I'm going to take the zip lock bag and
we're going to put a little bit of the red candy melts in there. So just spoon some of
your red candy melts into the zip lock bag. Make sure that you zip it all the way up.
Let any air out just before you zip that last little tiny bit. And using the scissors, I'm
just going to cut off just a little corner. That' just going to fashion this into just
a little bit of a piping bag for us. Now I want to take the Reese's peanut butter
cup and just do sort of a little bit of a just a very thin line around the outside of
it. Place that upside down into the patty pan or the cupcake case and push it down.
That's going to stick your peanut butter cup. And the reason that I've put a peanut butter
cup in the middle, apart from not having a solid block of candy melt, they're not cheap,
but we want to be able to put a lollipop stick through this. So you can't put a lollipop
stick through solid chocolate but you can put a lollipop stick through a Reese's peanut
butter cup. So we've left the top half of the peanut butter cup kind of exposed so that
we can get the lollipop stick through. And then we're going to use the zip lock bag and
just pipe all the way in as firmly as you can around that peanut butter cup. Now while
that's still nice and wet, that chocolate, you want to give it a couple of good hard
smacks on the bench. And you'll see there, it's actually starting
to...The candy melt is starting to go down into the cupcake liner so you're filling up
any gaps. Now that's about perfect. You'll see here, I've left a little bit in the center.
You can go around and just maybe a little bit higher on the edges. But make sure that
you do leave a nice little kind of a hole in the center. These are 2 that I've prepared
earlier and you can see they've both got holes in the center of them.
So you can pre-prepare those. You can pre-prepare those a couple of days in advance. That needs
to go into the refrigerator to completely set. But as I mentioned, I've got a couple
here that I have premade. So when they come out of the fridge, you just
peel off the patty pan or the cupcake liner. And this is what you've got. You can see here
a little bit of a hole in the top. And even if you've covered it a little bit, it's going
to be really really thin candy melts. So you'd be able to get your lollipop stick through
that. And you've got your hole in the bottom. So we want to take the bottom and then you
want to take your top. Now, when you do refrigerate a cakepop ball, it will natually get a little
bit of a flat bottom on it. So that's good for this. We don't need to re-roll it to get
the shape back or anything like that. You want to take your lollipop stick and I'm
going to put a bit of melted chocolate on the end of it. And I'm just going to push
it through. So I'm doing this on the bench and I'm pushing the lollipop stick all the
way through. And you can see there, it pops out the middle. You would not be able to do
that if we didn't have that peanut butter cup there. So just push it out so you've got
about a centimeter or so of the stick coming out. And down the bottom there, with that
chocolate seal, you want to just wipe around just to neaten it up. So that seal is going
to hold that red gumball machine bottom in place. And it's going to look quite neat.
So dip your entire stick, just the stick, not the gumball machine parts. Dip that into
the white chocolate. And taking your cakepop ball, you want to, in the center of the flat
bottom, just push it down. Now I'm going to give that a few minutes to make sure that
all of those seals are completely set -- the one underneath and this one in the middle.
And then we'll be back to dip and decorate. Okay, so we're back from the fridge and I'm
happy that both of my chocolate seals are really nice and well set. So it's time to
dip and decorate. We want these 2 little containers here and
our white chocolate melts for this. So you want to take your ball and we're going to
dip just to this line. Try not to let the white chocolate get over that line. If you
do, it's okay. We can tidy it up. But you just want to try and meet up with the little
red gumball machine [vest]. And as I turn it around, I'm just watching it just to see
how far I'm dipping. Pick it up. Missed a little spot there. So pop again.
Lovely. Pick it up. Give it a little tap off.
Now I've got a little spot there that's just not quite meeting up the way I wanted to.
So if that happens to you, on any of your cakepops, just take a toothpick and force
a little bit of that white chocolate in there. It's a bit of an unusual shape this one so
you might find that happens. Now you want to take some of these little
confetti sprinkles and you just want to sprinkle them around the bottom section. So just sprinkle
them around. You do want to work quite quickly here up to about sort of halfway.
Now taking one of your candy melts -- and once again quite quickly before it dries -- just
place one of those red candy melts right on the top in the center of your gumball machine.
That's going to act like our gumball machine lid.
Now I like to just go around and just flatten these ones out. You don't want them all sticking
up because you want them to look like the inside the gumball machine not stuck to the
outside of it. So I just went around and just flatten those in. And as I'm doing this, my
chocolate is drying. So as I said, you do have to work relatively quickly.
If you do find that there's any spot where you think you might need a few more sprinkles,
even if your chocolate has set, you can just take one of those toothpicks again, add in
a little bit more of that white chocolate and just sprinkle and press.
Alright, now that's the main body of our gorgeous little gumball machine cakepop. I'm going
to pop it over here and we'll just going to make our pop mechanism.
So I'm going to take another one of those candy melts.
Clear myself a little of space on my messy little work station.
Taking your knife, you just want to cut off 2 sides. And I also cut off just one end.
So what you should have there is a little shape that looks something like this.
Now I'm going to take one of those toothpicks. And look, this is really rough. It doesn't
have to be particularly neat or anything like that. It's just to give you the general idea.
I'm just going to scratch in a little circle. You can see there, that candy melt's kind
of curling out. And then just your fingers just to brush away any excess. So you want
to do a little circle. I did just a little cross which is, I guess, a little turning
mechanism that you turn once your money's gone in. And then down the bottom, I did kind
of like a bit of a misshapen square. So I'll hold this up in just a moment so you can see
exactly what I've done. But you can see there, I'm just digging it out.
Give it a little brush off. You can neaten it up a little bit more than that. But you
can see there, we've just got our 3 basic sort of gumball machine-looking shapes.
Now taking that little piece, you want to pop a little bit of either white or red chocolate
on the back of it using your toothpick. Pick the best side of your gumball machine. So
for me, I kind of think I want that, then maybe that to be my front.
Take a little bit of that melted white chocolate, stick it on the back of your mechanism and
just attach it on. And there you have your gorgeous completed
gumball machine cakepop, one of my favorite cakepops to date.
I hope you've loved watching this tutorial as much as I've enjoyed making it for you
and thank you very much for watching.
