Hi everyone this is a Geramicc85, today i will take off the transmission pan on my Dodge Ram 1500.
I will clean it, install a bulkhead fitting and bolt it back on to the transmission.
Last time i was using a felbro rubber gasket and the fluid was leaking out.
Thats why i will try a liquid compund this time.
Before you start working on the pan you should take out the transmission dip stick.
So when you take off the pan it doesnt get in your way.
This is how it looks like when you take off the pan from the transmission.
You can see i already put a new filter on there.
Since there's still fluid dripping out, it is soaked right away.
That's why it looks dirty.
I put this old oilpan under there. You can see the fluid is barely red.
It's more like brown so its really old.
That's why i am replacing it.
Before you drain out the old fluid make sure you have a canister that holds at least five liters.
You dont wanna spill any of the oil.
Whenever you have taken off the pan, make sure you check the band adjustment.
This is the screw for the rear band. To do the adjustment right, have a look into the repairs manual.
On this 2nd generation Ram the front band adjustment screw sits on the outside of the pan.
That way you can adjust it without taking the pan off.
Here you see the transmission oil pan.
I have cleaned it all with brake cleaner, to get all the old sealing stuff off there.
On the transmission pan i installed a bulk head fitting.
So next time i have to take out the oil it will be much easier.
The surface of the pan should be nice and clean before you put the new sealant on.
As you can see here there are small scratches on the pan.
That's why i decided to go with the Hylomar universal sealant.
It's liquid, you put it on, wait ten minutes and then bolt it together.
We'll see how that works.
I put on the compound on the pan, now i will wait for ten minutes and then i will bolt it on.
I am making sure the transmission is nice and clean before i put on the compund.
Now i start puting on the compound.
I am done putting the compound on the transmission from underneath.
I am also cleaning off the bolts that are holding the pan.
So that way I will be able to put some compound on there.
To keep them from getting loose over the time.
I am applying a little bit off compound on the bolts.
That way they will be locked and tight.
I am using this electrical screw driver to put on the bolts.
Then i will tight them up with a torque wrench.
I put the pan back on with all the bolts.
It was kind of difficult doing that and filming at the same time.
But it is on now with all the bolts.
I will wait a few more minutes and then tight it down.
The compound seems to do a good job so far.
Here is the new transmission fluid that comes in.
You should check if the oil that you are using is recommended for your vehicle.
It replaces the ATF+3, thats why i chose this oil.
