My father is a Buddhist gangster from the North.
My mother is a Catholic schoolgirl from the South.
I am a survivor, a Vietnamese American immigrant.
And this...
...is my story. My family lived peacefully in
a small coastal village in Vietnam.
Then
the war took my father away from home.
While he was gone
a lot of bad things happened.
Many people fled to other countries,
so did we.
But escaping to freedom doesn't mean happiness.
from these experiences, I learned to move on,
to forgive,
to face the past,
to sacrifice for the people that we love,
and to find strength in misery.
I am going to be the gangster we are all looking for.
