Mr Linde
-Yes
Would you be able to speak with me for a few moments ?
---Right now no, excuse me
It's important and we have to go. We are Spaniards who are
economically exiled here and we want to ask you about the statements that you
made, regarding lowering Spain's
minimum wage
---no no, I did not make those statements they are only (inaudable)
knowing that in the crisis situtation which we are experiencing there are tens of thousands of
people being evicted in our country
from their homes for not being able to pay the exorbitant loans EXORBITANT ! that
the banks imposed,do you not feel embarassment making these statements in the context of the social crisis in which we are living ?
Please- you cannot make any statements ?
How would you like to live on minimum wage in Spain ? Would you be able to do it?
Would you be able to live with minimum wage ? Please answer the press.
Please, can you answer the press? Well, as we can see Mr Linde,
the governor of the Bank of Spain ,refuses to answer the press, he does not want to make any
type of statement regarding the words that practically ignited Spanish society
and neither has he wanted to answer if he would be able to live on minimum wage
in Spain. And from the the Hilton Hotel we say goodbye.
Mr Linde, I am from the radio. I wanted to say to you that oustide, at the entrance
of the Hilton Hotel at 4pm, there will be a number of young Spaniards who live in Montreal
and who had to leave Spain for economic reasons. I wanted to ask you and invite you
to go out and speak with these people
---No, no I am not going out
You do not want to explain to these people the ( economic) measures that you propose
---no, no, not in this way
To those directly affected ?
---No, not this way
What do we have to do to be able to speak....
--- You have to speak with my chief of staff who is around - and in this manner no, I don't want to.
Would you give then an interview or a meeting to the representatives of this group ?
---no no
---I am not an economist,
But you are, as a representative of the Spanish state
--- But I am speaking for myself only but come on, the increasing of the age of retirement
evidently will never have an effect..will never favour employment directly
Well it will have a negative effect.
--- Of course, what it, what it, what it has is an effect on the sustainability of pensions.
It's also another question that one has to, that one has to take into account, no ? But not regarding the
employment of youth
Well, there are many economists who think the contrary. In economic questions who think the contrary
--- If the state saves allot of money and that money can be used to create employ...
Using what means could the state create employ
--- Ask the governmnet... (inaudible)
Well, we just finished speaking with the Spanish Consul General in Montreal and we have asked him
about his opinion and he says that he does not speak as a representative of the government, but only as himself
and as he himself has made clear, as he has demonstrated evidently
that he hasn't any bloody idea regarding economics as he let us know.
