The 208 is Peugeot's replacement for the 207 in the super mini sector and for a car this
small, it's promising quite a lot. It won't be available until the summer of this year
and prices will start from about ?10,000. But there is a five door and a three door
option to choose from. Both the three and the five door carry Peugeot's current design
cues like the floating grill.
And there's a spine that runs through the bonnet and over the roof. And at the back,
there's like a boomerang-tail light kind of design. These are all new features for the
208. But the most significant thing about the new 208 is the size and the weight. At
seven centimeters shorter than the 207 it replaces and up to 170 kilograms lighter as
well.
But with all that said Peugeot is saying that there's 5 centimeters more leg room in the
back and there's also a bigger boot. Front seat passengers have been tailored for as
well. The steering wheel is a little smaller than what you might be used to and the dials
have been raised up higher so they're easier to see.
There's also a well placed touch screen as well inside. These are all features that should
make the 208 quite a nice place to be from the driving position. From launch, there will
be two petrol engines and one diesel, with the diesel being the most efficient of the
lot, claiming 83 miles to the gallon which is pretty impressive.
