Welcome back to "Twin Cities Live."
There is a program here in the Twin Cities.
It's called Lifeworks,
and it's a nonprofit organization
that helps people with disabilities
find jobs, and it really--
disabilities is kind of a misnomer,
because it really shows off all the abilities
that they have, though.
They have a lot to offer,
and Lifeworks is actually working with them
so they can go out there and lead a full life,
and they really end up giving a lot back
while getting a lot back in turn.
Mike Walters is one of the clients over at Lifeworks.
We've been hearing a lot about him.
Yes, exactly.
He works over at CaptionMax in Minneapolis,
and he's only been there for a couple months now,
but he's already made a huge impression there.
Take a look.
[upbeat music]
[silverware clinking]
(Max) He's as dedicated or as dedicated,
if not more dedicated,
than all the regular employees here.
Downstairs, we have a kitchen and cafe
and kind of a dining area, company break room.
He cleans that.
He cleans the stairs.
He cleans the front entryway and mops.
(Emily) He's honestly the most together employee we have.
He really-- he has a whole system down.
He's very cool about it.
He's got everything all planned out.
(Mike) And clean microwave.
When the whole list is done,
I put it in Suzanne's office.
And I ask make it more-- extra lists.
He does it all.
I mean, he cleans the bathrooms.
He does our garbage. He takes out our recycling.
I mean, there's never anything on the floor.
He's vacuuming all the time.
I mean, the place is just spotless because of Mike.
[bag crinkling]
(Max) He took on the task of making the coffee all by himself
without us telling him what to do.
He figured out how to make it,
and he makes the coffee.
He drinks a ton of coffee.
And he goes around to the employees here,
and he asks them,
"Hey, did you try the new coffee this morning?
I just made some fresh coffee."
I love having Mike here in the office,
and I hear that a lot from coworkers as well, just--
he brings definite joy and an excitement to work,
and it's really nice to have that.
You know, when I'm having a bad day
and he comes in and he's so happy and excited
about something,
it puts things in perspective.
(Mike) "Peace."
