My name's Ken, I'm the creative director and one of the cofounders of Hato, which is
a printing press and a design agency, which I set up after graduating from
St. Martin's with my partner Jackson Lam. It was really to be able to empower and
engage with our community and offer them means of production. And I think that
notion of education and the social element to our practice is really
important. With all of our projects and our approach were very
collaborative with our clients. Hato isn't necessarily a typical graphic
design studio. The upstairs space is a design agency based in London and
Hong Kong, where we predominately work within the cultural sector. But the
downstairs space is Hato Press, which is consumer-led practice. Its sustaining
itself, it's being able to offer printing for galleries or graduate students,
as well as working with upcoming artists and publishing their works. I think the
press is quite an interesting, experimental space for us. It's run by
the team that deliver Hato Press as a project, it's something that
we're really proud of.
