Plans for Te Waka Maori were launched in Auckland today,
where Maori arts and wares will be promoted during the RWC.
But what's the point of it only being up for 11 days?
Te Wero Island lays vacant at the moment,
but come October it will be bustling with people.
This is where the Waka Maori will stand.
I already know it will be awesome.
People will come and see the best of Maoridom.
The Waka Maori preview was launched last night
by the Maori Minister and Ngati Whatua.
The Waka Maori will open from the 13-23 of October.
It's deliberately staged at the end of the tournament
so that all people have maximum opportunity to promote themselves
while larger numbers are in town.
Tonight is a great night.
The appropriate people are here to view the Waka Maori of Auckland.
It costs $900,000 to build the waka.
$1.5 million to host.
It will be a pavilion showcasing Maori aspects.
Maori people will be showcased.
It's really fitting as we travelled here on our ancestral waka
and people of the world have been brought here by their various waka.
The waka's in a warehouse at the moment being trialled.
It will be set up at Te Wero Island on September 22.
