"The VPP audit participants really got the sense of commitment by the personnel
towards our safety program,
and so building up to the final recommendation, and when we were told,
there was, it was a very tense moment on the project.
And when they unveiled that we were not only
awarded Merit Status,
but the highest level which was Star Status, that was really beyond our expectations."
"I think it's highlighted to the community, and
to our work force, and to other job sites how important safety is to us, and we do have folks that will
come to the project and they've heard in the past from other places they've worked that safety is important, but
they never really believed it from other companies, and they say without question
that they believe it here."
"By identifying the hazards early,
we can actually plan them into the work.
So we know before we even start to work, how to
control our hazards and correct them in the field.
We also go out on a routine basis, like you heard, with the scout team, our employees,
anybody that has an opportunity to bring a hazard to our attention,
and we'll either correct it on the spot,
or step back and figure out how to correct it, you know, in a meeting."
"I think that
it's important as sort of the community liaison and the Citizens
Advisory Commission, are all community liaisons and all the members,
one of the things that we have always tried to stress is that we had to
protect our work force and protect the environment as well as the community,
and the VPP is certainly a
manifestation of protection of the work force."
"One of the things that we do on this project is always continuous improvement.
We're always looking for ways to improve how we do our systems, our processes, how
we do business.
And we use a lot of tools for that. Lean Six Sigma is one of the tools that we
use to improve our systems and our processes, and this is just going to be
another one of our tools in our tool box."
