Kidnapped pregnant woman rescued after discreet call to police
The movie "Connected"
where the *** was rescued after staying connected on the phone to a stranger
happened for real yesterday in Kaohsiung.
Suspected kidnappers surnamed Wei and Chen
didn't think their victim would
remain calm enough to discreetly call the police
and let them trace her whereabouts.
The kidnappers looked dumbfounded when arrested.
Chen: "One of them kicked me in my stomach, so..."
Police: "They kicked you in the stomach?"
Chen: "Yes, I'm bleeding now."
Police: "The ambulance is coming soon."
The victim, 35-year-old real estate agent Chen,
is three months pregnant.
This May,
she showed a military officer surnamed Wei
a second-hand property valued at US$175,000.
Wei paid a US$30,000 down payment
but later asked for his deposit back
because of repair problems.
However, the negotiations fell through.
On Tuesday Wei and his friends forced Chen into a car,
kicking her in the stomach when she resisted.
Even when she was bleeding, the suspects
threatened to "dig a hole and bury her alive,"
and "put a bullet through her."
After they used a toy guy and a metal rod
to force her to sign three checks totaling US$30,000,
they made her give them more cash,
but still wouldn't let her go.
Yesterday at 3am,
the two suspects got out the car
leaving Chen alone in the back.
She discreetly called the police,
and then said, "can you take me to the hospital?"
"Why are you bringing me here?"
"A ransom?"
"Your black Mercedes looks pretty nice."
The police realized she had been kidnapped
and traced her using the cellphone signal.
They locked in on the criminals' whereabouts and called back.
Chen then pretended she was talking to a client,
"The house you want to buy
is near Kaohsiung University
with tennis courts next to it."
The police understood the hidden message
and quickly arrived to arrest the suspects.
Police: "You are suspected of infringing other people's freedom,
kidnapping, and assault."
Police: "You are now under arrest."
Police: "You are suspected of infringing other people's freedom,
and kidnapping for ransom.
We are arresting you according to law.
Work with our investigation,
and go back to the police station with us."
Wei: "OK."
Wei: "Yes it's mine, my car."
Police: "Is it under your name?"
Wei: "Yes."
Police found a gun in Wei's car, as well as
baseball bats, and commercial checks.
The suspects said they were working out a real estate dispute,
but denied forcing Chen to sign checks and holding Chen hostage.
After questioning police filed several
charges against the suspects and took them into custody.
Police officer: "We want the public to know
that if they ever encounter similar circumstances,
they can use this method,
to get rescued."
Police Officer: "Find a chance to call for help."
