Welcome to
UOIT's Teaching and Learning Centre's teachorial on installing
TurningPoint. This is one screencast in a series of teachtorials
designed to help you use TurningPoint in your classroom
to poll your students for responses to your questions.
TurningPoint is an audience-polling software that works in conjunction
with ResponseWare. Together they provide a wireless
connection between the instructor's TurningPoint presentation and
the students' web browser based response device. You can
transform your PowerPoint presentations in TurningPoint presentations and
watch your student confirm their understanding of key points
become more engaged in your classes and see the answers unfold
in real time. Let's start by installing
TurningPoint.
By going to the website www.turningtechnologies.com
you will
be at the homepage for all products
by TurningTechnologies, of which TurningPoint is one.
Click on the download button on the right hand side (in green)
Do not download from this list here. Go
to International Downloads under the Quick Links.
So by clicking on International Downloads, I'm taken to
the next web page that asks me if I'm going to be installing
PC Products, Hardware Products, Web-Based Products: Including
ResponseWare, Mac Products or Legacy TurningPoint.
I'm going to install TurningPoint on my PC so I'm going to select
PC Products. You are given a list of the different
products that are available for the PC and the one we are installing is
TurningPoint. I'm going to click on TurningPoint
provide it with some information
about myself - first name,
last name, email address,
my phone number,
Country, Industry,
(Higher Education), Company Name (UOIT).
The platform that I use is PC.
If I were using input devices,
some kind of cards or clickers, etc.
I would be checking some of these boxes here; but we are not going
to do that - we're going to use ResponseWare. If you want to
receive emails, you can select on any of the email options
I'm going to turn these all off.
Right at the top is a list of TurningPoint products
that you may or may not want to install.
The only thing you have to worry about here is
whether your machine is a 32-bit machine or a 64-bit machine.
I have a 32-bit so I'm going to click on the 32-bit
TurningPoint 4.2.4.
At the very bottom, I click Submit
and then I'm taken to the screen that says "Click here to download".
I'm going to click here to download. It's told me that I
have chosen to open this file - I'm going to save it
which, of course, gets saved to the downloads. Once the file finishes
downloading, I'm going to double-click on the file
to launch the installation.
It asks me if I want to run this file - Yes,
I want to run the file.
It takes me through the setup process
and then
takes me to the InstallShield wizard. It's a simple matter at
this point of clicking Next, Next throughout the dialog
boxes. I'll start here - click Next - agree to the terms
of the license, click Next. Provide your user name
and organization (UOIT) - click Next.
English - click Next and Install
As this program
installs, it will not only put the program onto your machine; but
it will also create an icon on your desktop.
And it's finished. You can always check
the box beside "Launch TurningPoint 2008" and click
Finish and you will see that PowerPoint
opens up; but PowerPoint opens up with a
special ribbon across the top for TurningPoint.
This concludes our teachtorial on Installing TurningPoint. Thank you for watching.
