" We are praying, we are praying, we are praying for peace"
You came together because you have common values. You wanted peace in your own communities.
You wanted not to see the violence again and you did it.
You have my admiration, and you have my sincere thanks for the commitment that you've demonstrated
maintaining peace in your neighborhood. Your actions once again, your actions have had
real impact on peace.
What we did as the cohesion champions, we did wonderful barazas (group meetings) within
our areas with youth groups. When we met these youth groups we were trying to share with
them that peace is paramount within our society and they are the ready people who are already
there to bring peace wherever they were.
We also did the peace caravans within our society where we could go around meeting people
within the groups and within the groups, we'd actually sit down with them, discuss on how
to bring this peace in our locality.
In Mathere, before there was no a good relationship between police officers and members of the
community. We would like to appreciate security personnel and the local administration in
their tiresome work because they really tried to work together with us closely and towards
bringing peace in Mathare because we cannot bring peace if we are far with the police
officers or the area administration.
In Korogocho we have three main hot spots -- we went there. We used to stop at the
main hot spots, we tell them the importance of peace. We don't care about your tribe;
is true that we had a mutual understanding and maximum cooperation that made us to have
that peaceful election.
I must say that the journey was a long journey but this journey would not be a good journey
had it been that we didn't get support from USAID and I must say that as we celebrate
our peaceful country, I must give back credit to you as our partners because we were like
a vehicle which did not have fuel but when you gave us the fuel, we decided to move.
We are very proud, the United States is very proud -- I am very proud to partner with
you. Thank you for doing your part; I encourage you to continue to be champions of peace,
to be ambassadors of peace.
