We decided to concentrate on a setup
that is identical to the setup for the work ‘Rebonds B’ by the composer Iannis Xenakis
Actually, here we have two drums
We have two tom-toms
where one of them, on this occasion, is also a snare drum.
And we have a bass drum.
It is also possible to write for vibraphone.
It has a range of three octaves
From F under middle-C…
We have a number of techniques that one may use
Different mallets – we may use medium mallets
It is also possible to use very soft mallets,
Or to use hard mallets
Even, in extreme cases, we may use plastic mallets.
These give the vibraphone a sound a little more like the glockenspeil.
An additional technique that may be used with the vibraphone is bowing
This produces a different atmosphere.
And in addition, it is possible to use the motor.
This is the marimba that we will use for the concert, Here is middle-C, and we have a low A, the inerval of a tenth below.
It is possible to use a MIDI keypad, which may be used as a controller for external elements,
It is the composer’s resposibility to supply all the accompanying electronic equipment, hardware and software.
The keypad controller also comes with its own internal sounds.
With the MIDI output one may use the keypad as a trigger for almost any sound that you can think of.
