this fun experiment can be done with very simple materials. you require a saucer, a
glass, a few candles and a match box. place a lighted candle in the saucer and pour in
colored water in the saucer. take a glass tumbler and then invert it on the candle and
as you expect, candle will eat up all the oxygen and there will be a vacuum in the glass
and the water would rise up. mark the level of water with the help of a rubber band. now
the same experiment, instead of one candle, you can repeat with two candles. place the
glass tumbler on two lighted candles, and this time as you would expect they will consume
more oxygen and water level will rise further up. mark this level with another rubber band
and repeat the same experiment with three burning candles and as you would expect the
water would rise even further. now the water rises certainly because the burning candles
consume oxygen, there is a vacuum inside the glass tumbler and the water is sucked up.
but probably there is more then meets the eye.
