We're gathered together for the 30th Blanket Run here in Canberra on such a beautiful sunny
morning.
Pete tell us a little bit about the Blanket Run and what motorcyclists in this region
are doing for charity.
OK, this is our 30th year. 30 years of continuous effort to raise money for the needy groups
within Canberra.
We have grouped for many different charities, this year it's for the Salvation Army. We've
done the Red Shield Appeal, we've had Canberra Care, we've had the Smith Family.
We've raised many hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, goods and food for those
in need in Canberra in winter.
So what happens is we gather together at about 9.30 on a beautiful Saturday morning. Everyone's
brought blankets to donate or put money in their pockets to put in the buckets once we
get to Civic and we go for a long slow ride down around the roundabout at Woden and end
up in Civic in Garema Place which is where we'll be in probably just a little over an
hour where we'll say a few words and count how many motorbikes, see how many people got
along to todays Blanket Run.
For those that were watching a minute ago, there was close to I reckon a hundred people
up on the stage just from one group, the Canberra Riders.
So there's lots of different groups, there's the Canberra Riders, there's the Ulysses clubs,
there's other clubs, there's Girls on the Move, and they all try to get a bit of friendly
competition going to see how many riders they turn out for the day.
There's not too many dirt bikes though Pete, as usual.
I invite the DSRA. When I stop doing this front man job I'll ride my chook chaser.
OK, dirt bikes are part of the scene of course, and yes, that's what I have.
Anyway, have a great ride today.
There's a dirt bike on steroids coming in.
