you've got to be like, "Valhalla!"
- Yeah. - You're like "aaah".
ADAM: I'm tempted to crap in that thing.
- ( chuckling ) - I really am.
- Hi. - How's it going?
- How are you? - Good.
- I'm Skip. - Nice to meet you.
- I'm Adam. - Hi. How are you?
- I'm Greg Makos. - I'm Laura Makos.
We just got married, we've lived in this house for four years
and we pretty much redid the whole inside,
so the last piece of the puzzle
was to redo the outside,
and that was really the last thing we needed to do
before we could start a family.
The outdoor space that we envisioned
was to be something that was safe,
have a nice lawn for kids to play on.
You know, we saved for years to get this done,
and we were just really excited.
GREG: We hired Ray to do some stucco work for us,
do some paver work, landscaping,
and also build a safety gate.
He basically left us high and dry,
took all of our money.
He has left us with a nightmare in our backyard.
- Deathtrap. - It's a deathtrap.
LAURA: There's sharp metal everywhere.
There's rusty, I mean, well, rebar--
I don't even know where that came from.
There's nails sticking out of the wood.
Because he stole all this money from us,
we basically can't start a family.
We're gonna have to pull from retirement
to fix it somehow.
Babies are expensive,
and I don't know how we're gonna do it.
I don't know if we can do it.
GREG: For someone to come in and wreck our house,
take our money, and prevent us from starting a family
is the most infuriating thing on Earth.
- You own the home? - Yep.
- Yeah. - And you guys...
- Laura's parents. - Laura's parents.
- Oh, okay. - The way we found out
about Ray was he actually did the stucco work
at Jay and Ann's house.
What exactly did you hire him for?
What was the whole job here?
Um, it was for the stucco,
install paver patio in the front, in the back,
sprinklers, sod, and a security gate along the side.
What was the total bid for?
Just below 35,000.
How much of that did you pay him?
We've paid, uh, about 34,000 so far
for everything that's been done.
- ( both groaning ) - Oh, wow.
- Yeah. - When's the last time you spoke to him?
It's probably been three or four months ago
that we actually talked to him,
and since he was here at the house.
And are you able to get a hold of him?
Is he returning your messages?
- Nope. Not calling us back. - No.
LAURA: This was really the last thing we needed to do
to start a family and just move forward with our lives
and we're just stuck.
No grandkids.
You guys want some grandkids, right?
Exactly. We're waiting for this one right here.
How was your experience with Ray?
Ours was really good.
That's what's so disappointing.
I'm pissed he stole money from the kids.
He didn't do any of the work.
This is what we're left with.
